MARCH NEWSLETTER

With Easter on the way it's time to stock up the wine rack again. In keeping with this theme, we have resurrected a very popular selection of medal winners from selected wine shows. The results from the Royal Sydney Wine Show and Sydney International Wine Competition were both recently released, and we have combed through the results... some of the wines we have picked you will already be familiar with as they have also won medals in previous shows (such as the 2009 Crabtree Riesling and 2008 Penfolds Thomas Hyland Chardonnay, which were awarded Gold Medals and Trophies in both Sydney and Adelaide) and we have also introduced a couple of new wineries to the list.
Here are the wines we have chosen for this new mix:

Catching Thieves Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2009... This very popular Margaret River blend from our Adelaide Show mix just collected a Blue Gold /Top 100 pick at the Sydney International Wine Challenge. Schild Estate Unwooded Chardonnay 2008.

Schild Estate Unwooded Chardonnay 2009.. Schild Estate are one of the largest independent premium grape growers in the Barossa Valley region, with over 400 acres under vine at the southern end of the Barossa Valley, and the previous vintage of this crisp Chardonnay was also awarded a Gold Medal at the Hobart Wine Show

Sevenhill Riesling 2009. Sevenhill Cellars are one of the oldest wineries and always a popular place to visit on any trip to the Clare Valley. This is an excellent Clare Valley Riesling which shows delicate citrus flavours balanced with mineral acidity . This wine has been highly sought after due to a previous vintage collecting a trophy and was included in our Adelaide Wine Show Dozen in 2006. This new release has a Bronze Medal in Sydney.

McGuigan Bin 9000 Semillon 2007...McGuigan Wines were recently awarded Winemaker of the Year and have collected a Gold Medal for this vintage of their ever consistent Semillon.

Montana Sauvignon Blanc 2009... The NZ winery that kicked off the Marlborough Sauv Blanc phenomenon in Australia needs no introduction... now a Blue Gold at Sydney International Wine Show.

Penfolds Thomas Hyland Chardonnay 2008....A blend of premium Chardonnay from cooler climate vineyards, this exceptional Trophy winner has just collected another Gold Medal in Sydney.

Ballast Stone Currency Creek ' Stonemason' Shiraz 2008... Earlier vintages of the Cabernet under this label have been very good sellers for us....they are an excellent range of wines which were originally aimed at the export market, and this Shiraz has now collected one of a very few Gold Medals in its class at the Sydney Wine Show. (Both 2008 Cab Sauv and Shiraz are available while stocks last at only $125 dozen.)

Hastwell and Lightfoot Cab Sauv 2006-- A Blue Gold/ Top 100 pick at Sydney International has just been added to the accolades to this boutique McLaren Vale winery. A lovely balanced wine ideal for cellaring.

Jip Jip RocksShiraz Cabernet 2008 ....This Limestone Coast blend collected a Gold Medal in Adelaide ..
now a Blue Gold /Top 100 wine at the Sydney International and is continuing to develop very nicely.

Richard Hamilton Gumprs Shiraz 2008...A Silver Medal in Sydney has now been added to the Gold and Trophy for Best Shiraz in Show in Adelaide and could be a 10 year proposition if you have the patience.

Schild Estate GMS 2009... 55% Old Vine Grenache blended with 25% Mouvedre and 20% Shiraz, this wine shows lovely berry fruit and is ideal for drinking now -2014.

Xanadu Dragon Cabernet Sauvignon 2007.... This Margaret River winery has had consistent show success and Sydney has been no exception where this excellent Cab Sauv just collected another Gold Medal.

For those of you that enjoy a bargain sparkling wine, we have plenty of stock available of the Hardys Omni Classic NV, which was recently awarded a Gold Medal at the Rutherglen Wine Show. It is a very good wine at the special price of $95 dozen; and also on hand for the same price is the Omni Blue Label (a sweeter, fruity syle) and the Green Label which has a citrus tang to it.
We have now exhausted our allocation of some of the wines bought in for our 2009 Pick of the Adelaide Show Dozen... many have had further success on the circuit and are included in our mixed dozen above ,whilst others will be slotted into our Premium Mystery Mixed Dozens. Dont forget the ever popular Rats and Mice, which will also include an assortment of wines from previous promotions and Christmas leftovers.
Although we have now sold out of the Clare Valley Cleanskin Chardonnay we offered you last month, the 2008 Cleanskin Shiraz is still available to order. There is also a new delivery on its way of the McWilliams Select Series range, which has now rolled onto the 2009 vintage. These are all excellent quality quaffers, and now also available in a Moscato for those of you that prefer a slightly sweeter wine... still at only $89 dozen.
Happy Easter to all our wine club members....Please order for pre Easter despatch as we will be closing for two weeks of holidays following Easter, and all further deliveries will resume on the 19th April.
