WINE LOVERS CLUB NEWSLETTER- MAY
Dear Wine Lover, We have now put together the first Wine Show selection for the year, which contains a mix of wines from a range of capital city wine shows and are all very highly awarded and well regarded by judges,wine writers and consumers alike.
Below are the wines we have chosen:
1) Mount Riley Sauvignon Blanc: 2008: Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is world renowned for its distinctive varietal flavour. Gooseberry and freshly cut grass with fruit flavours of pineapple and lime to create a well balanced wine.Gold Medals National Wine Show, NZ International Wine Show, 5 Stars Winestate
2) Pewsey Vale Eden Valley Riesling 2008: Flavours of lemon blossom and lime dominate this minerally Eden Valley Riesling. Crisp and refreshing, it is the perfect choice for a serve of beer battered garfish. 94 Points James Halliday, Blue Gold Sydney International.. Top 100 Wines.
3)Trevor Jones ‘Boots’ Gris Blanc 2008 : Another Eden Valley winery which collected a Blue Gold award in Sydney for their Riesling under this label… so for something slightly different we have selected this unusual blend of Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc. It exhibits spicy fruit and is decidedly crisp and flavoursome… a great lunchtime wine.
4) Evans and Tate Classic Dry White 2008 :. E&T have created an enviable show record over the years receiving numerous trophies and gold medals at both domestic and international competitions; and this one is high on a recent list of the Top 10 most popular wines in the country… a blend of WA Semillon and Sauv Blanc with a touch of Chardonnay.
5) Moondah Brook Verdelho 2008 (Top Silver, Perth Wine Show and Melbourne Wine Show 2007) This very popular WA Verdelho is always good with spicy Asian foods and fresh seafood or chicken dishes. Best drunk young and fresh .
6) Wicks Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2008: With back to back Hyatt Advertiser awards for their Sauvignon Blanc, the highly anticipated 2008 has quite a reputation to uphold. This release lives up to expectations from one of Adelaide Hills leading Sauvignon Blanc producers. Drink young and fresh.
7) Annies Lane Shiraz 2007: Soft berry fruit balanced with subtle smoky oak….the Annies Lane range are consistent winners on the show circuit inc.. Gold, National Wine Show 2009 and Bronze at 2008 Adelaide and Melbourne Wine Shows
8) Aramis “Black Label” Cabernet Sauvignon 2005: The inaugural release from this boutique McLaren Vale winery will appeal to any lover of great Cabernet. “Wonderful texture to the wine and a finish that lingers long”. (Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate 91pts, Bronze Medal, Adelaide Wine Show 2008)
9) Cape Barren ‘Native Goose’ GSM 2007: A Gold Medal winning favourite from our Adelaide Show Dozen, this classic Rhone blend is in great demand both nationally and internationally. The fruit for this wine is a blend of 50% Grenache 40% Shiraz 10% Mourvédre, and was sourced from their vineyards located in Willunga and Blewitt Springs.
10 ) Rolling Shiraz 2006: This wine is made by Philip Shaw , and comes from the Central Range of New South Wales. It is more European in style than your typical Australian Shiraz, and displays good weight and depth of flavour without excessive oak or tannins. (Gold, National Wine Show).
11) Fox Creek Shadows Run Shiraz Cabernet 2007: A full bodied mix of two thirds Shiraz and one third Cab Sauv from Mc Laren Vale, this is a great value wine. Fox Creek have a very good pedigree on the wine show circuit, and this one has now also been listed in the Wine state annual of Top 40 buys. Ideal to drink over the next couple of years.
12) YellowTail Reserve Shiraz 2006: Casella are a real family owned success story with a great international reputation This rich ,medium bodied Shiraz collected a Gold at National Wine Show and is a Blue Gold winner at Sydney International and in their Top 100 Wines. Drink to 2013 with roast beef.
Cost is $198 dozen... All Whites and All Reds ( 2 of each)are available at the same price.
The two Clare Valley Rieslings from our last mailout are still available at $118 dozen... 'The First' is a classic single vineyard Clare Riesling,while the 'Sweet Kiss'is a fruitier and slightly sweet style. Both are drinking very well,or you can order 6 of each if you prefer.
There are a very few cases of the Stonemason Cabernet Sauvignon from Currency Creek still remaining at only $99 dozen..this very good export labelled wine has been very popular and normally sells around $15 under its regular label.
