WINE LOVERS CLUB MARCH NEWSLETTER
You may have noticed it has been a little longer than usual since our last wine club newsletter, and with the terrible situation in country Victoria coupled with such extreme conditions throughout so much of the country we offer our sincere condolences to all of our wine club clients who have been directly affected by any of these tragic events.
The extended heatwave in January and February has also affected many wineries who have been forced to pick their fruit earlier than usual, and the global financial crisis has also slowed up many of our export markets. So with Easter only a few weeks away, many well known names are keen to quit some of the current vintages from their cellars; saving you a lot of money off their regular price.
Due to the popularity of the export labelled wines we purchased last year from Ballast Stone winery at Currency Creek, we have committed to buying the last remaining stocks of their 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon which is a very well structured and full bodied wine. Our special price is $99 dozen… it really is great value as you will never find this wine under its domestic label at this price. There are also some cases remaining of their 2007 “Steeple Jack’’ Semillon Sauvignon Blanc which proved very popular with our clients over the summer months, and a brand new 2006 Limestone Coast Chardonnay under the ‘Tall Trees’ label, all of which represent excellent value at only $99 dozen.
And many of you were also very impressed with the specials we brought you last year from the Limestone Coast. All of the wines from the Wangolina Station range (who collected a Gold Medal at the Adelaide Show with their 2008 Sauvignon Blanc) are now all sold out, but we have a few remaining cartons of the same vintage and variety from the excellent Cape Thomas vineyards (who are also at Mt Benson, situated thirteen kilometres north of Robe) which is excellent drinking at the discounted price of $144 dozen. Cape Thomas have also offered us a great deal on their 2005 Bosuns Blend Shiraz Cabernet, which collected a Trophy & Gold Medal at the National Cool Climate Wine Show and Gold Medal at Australian Small WInemakers Show in 2007. This wine is a 60% Shiraz and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon blend which is under cork, and developing very nicely… normal cellar door retail is $16 bottle. Our regular wine club price is $144… now further slashed to under $10 bottle .Only $118 dozen, or a mixed 6 of each is also available for $132.
We have also bought up the last stocks of a couple of different styles of Clare Valley Riesling, bottled under the Naked Run label.….these wines were made by three young winemakers (Stephen Baraglia, Jayme Wood and Brad Currie) under the guidance of Neil and Andrew Pike, who of course are renowned for premium quality Clare Riesling. . ‘The First’ was made from fruit sourced from a single vineyard located at Sevenhill, and is a classic Clare Riesling from the 2006 vintage which should continue to age well. The ‘Sweet Kiss’ is also 100% Clare Valley Riesling, but the ferment was stopped early to produce a slightly more fruity style made for early drinking. It is wonderfully balanced with acid and sweetness, and would complement many Asian foods. Will go fast…these wines normally sell at over $15 bottle , but our price is only $118 per case while stocks last. Six bottles of each available at the same price…
A new start to 2009….. ..
It has been a very busy time for us as we have recently joined forces with a shopfront outlet in addition to the mail order service we have run for many years. This new arrangement will give us the opportunity to access some great new deals through an affiliation with the biggest group of independently owned liquor outlets in Australia. We will still be choosing our exclusive Wine Show medal winning selections as well as continuing to source the great value winery direct deals; but we are also planning to offer you an increased selection of other wine, beer and spirit specials which we have not been able to carry before.
For any of you who live locally (or are heading down for a trip to Mc Laren Vale and the lovely Fleurieu Peninsula area) you can now come and visit us at O’ Sullivan Beach Cellars, 105 Galloway Road (corner Selway Terrace) O’ Sullivan Beach. The store is located just off O’ Sullivan Beach Road between Dyson and Gulfview Roads; and is open daily excepting Good Friday and Christmas Day.
Of course, you are welcome to pick up your wine order by arrangement and we will let you know when we have it all ready for you to collect.
Come and browse through the store, and say hello… we look forward to seeing you soon.
Some brand new mystery mixed dozens…..
Due to the extra wines we will now have access to, our various mixed dozens will become even more interesting than usual. At the moment, we have packed a few cases of a premium mystery mix, which contains some of the last few bottles from the Adelaide Wine Show selection and other highly awarded wines, at only $189 dozen.Plus we have a new batch of our ever popular ‘Rats and Mice’ dozens at $140, which contain various bargains from the cellar that are remaining from the Christmas newsletter. Both are also available in an All White and All Red Dozen ( 2 of each bottle)
And an all new medal winning selection on its way…. At the time of writing the results from the Sydney Royal Wine Show had recently been announced. There were approximately 2,300 entries from wineries all over Australia; and it was chaired by Mr Iain Riggs of Brokenwood Wines who took over from James Halliday. There is also the Sydney International Wine Competition, which is judged very shortly and is open to wines from any country. This one judges its finalists alongside appropriate food, and has an International panel of judges. You can have a look at their website on www.top100wines.com Late last year the Royal Melbourne Wine Show was also held, so we will be working through a wide range of wines and will shortly finalise a new mix to bring you in our next newsletter. If you would like to pre order this dozen, please do so on the back page and we will charge your credit card and dispatch it soon after the Easter break.
Return to Sender….. We are constantly updating our wine club database, and would like to thank all of you who have notified us of any change of address or any other contact details … as you can appreciate, it saves us a lot of time chasing up the correct addresses for any returned mail. Unfortunately for the clients who prefer to receive their newsletter by email, we often find that we get quite a lot of bounce backs, or undeliverable mail. This is possibly due to the attachments being too large, or maybe they are being blocked out under a spam filter . The current newsletter and specials can always be found on our website, so for any future e-mailouts we will try to keep the size to a minimum, with a link to the full newsletter on a PDF to download at your leisure. If you currently receive a printed copy and would prefer to receive your newsletter by email, please subscribe to the list on the homepage on our website (www. wineloversclub.com.au) However, please note that as a security precaution you will be prompted to confirm your details before you receive any e-newsletters from us.
