Langhorne Creek has built itself a reputation for growing great wine grapes and certainly some imported varieties flourish in this region. Lagrein is no exception.
This wine is versatile suiting many foods or meals, and would look great after a few years of good cellaring.
Deep ruby core with a youthful rose red edge.At first intense dark fruits leap out with some oak char adding weight. Aroma settles out to black olive and tapanade with a little caraway seed and spice, slightly herbal.Dark plum fruits and olive characters are dominant with chalky tannins contributing to a big structure. Certainly some complexity seen as earthy, fruit characters show late and also on the finish, oak and cherry lingering.Decanting would certainly shape this youthful wine into a gem if to be opened now but some ageing, perhaps 1 – 2 years will mould the Lagrein into a something special.
Would suit Italian pasta meals forsure. Also would be good with pork and lamb meals, certain chicken dishes with tomato based sauces or just a gourmet pizza.
